Review of Ritual

Ritual is an application for ordering food for pickup via a smartphone.

The app is currently available in Toronto and Chicago.  The idea is pretty simple: order and pay over the phone, skip the line, and just go to the restaurant for pickup.  The restaurants usually have a separate line for Ritual pickup so wait time is almost non existent.

Platforms/App review (4 stars):

The application is available for both Google Play Store and Apple's App Store.
Notifications:
There are a bunch of notifications (you did not order coffee today, new restaurant in area...) which I found to be bothersome after a while, however the app has a setting which allows you to turn them off.  (In my opinion you will know when you are hungry or when you want to go for a coffee).
In the recent release of the Android app (1.27) I found an error where they keep the last "order is ready" notification for a couple of hours after I already picked up the order, which attributed to -1 star.

Benefits (~10% saving in long run) (4.5 stars):

The app offers Rewards.

For full details you can see: Ritual - Rewards.
To summarize you end up getting barely any points from your first purchase, and on the second purchase (of select restaurants) you get 20 times the points.  You get 10 points per dollar spent, and you need to collect 10,000 points to get $10 back.

Referring friends/First time users:
The easiest benefit they offer is to first time users, where any friend you recommend who has not tried the app, can get $10 of which $5 is applied to their first purchase,  and $5 is applied to the second purchase.  For every friend you refer you also get $10.
Certain stores also offer some sort of reward if you sign up using their promo code, but it is less than $10 to the best of my knowledge.
If you are are a first time user I would highly appreciate if you use my promo code (BOJAN9939) for a $10 credit.

One time bonuses:
There are a bunch of one time bonus points for first breakfast order, first dinner order...  (5x the points), or try a new place and get 100 points... These rewards are just a gamification of the app, and actually are not equivalent to much monetary value, (100 points is equivalent to 10 cents)!

Casual Customers:
I will try and illustrate how much money you can save based on some spending. For example: you spend $15 on a burger on Monday, you get 150 points, you spend $15 on a burger the following Monday you get 150x20 points = 3000.  So with $30 spend you get 3150 points, that is equivalent to $3.15,  which is 10.5% for repeat customers.

"Elite" Customers:
They also now have ritual "elite" program: which gives you 1.5 times the points for every purchase after you make any 8 purchases in a month.  Once you achieve this elite status, you have to make 8 purchases the month after to keep it.  For full details see:
So lets assume the scenario from before:
You spend $15 on a burger on Monday, you get 150x1.5=225 points, you spend $15 on a burger the following Monday and you get 225x20 =4500 (but capped at 3000).
So with this calculation you end up getting 3225 points for 2 burgers or 10.8%.

Deletion (2 stars):

Whenever I sign up for any program (especially with a credit card involved) I always wonder how I can deactivate it, get rid of it.
Ritual allows you to delete your credit card by just removing the information via the app (see details here).
However to actually delete the account, and all associations with it you need to email them (see details here).

Summary:

In order to get the most benefits I would recommend using Ritual for the restaurants that you already like and where you know what to order ahead of time, and plan to make the same order in the next week.  The convenience of pickup without having to wait on the phone, searching multiple websites, or waiting to pay at the counter when you pick up is definitely worth the trouble of downloading and using this app.  If you plan to use it only once it might not be worth it with the process involved in deleting the account.

As mentioned above if you would like to download the app, please use my my promo code (BOJAN9939) for $10 credit.

I am not affiliated in any way (other then being a customer) with Ritual.
